Bee keeping

Bee keeping can provide an extra source of income for a village in Malawi. We provided bee hives (kindly constructed by students from Kamuzu Academy's International Award scheme) and a bee keeping suit to a village near Chipata mountain on the border of Nkhotakota Game Reserve.

A second set of bee hives were constructed at the temporary Mtunthama training centre also providing carpentry training for the apprentices there.

We are looking for funding to help establish the training centre on a more permanent basis and around 300UKL to provide bee keeping training.

Road maintenance

"Are you sure we're still on the road?"

Some of the remote roads in Kasungu National Park get washed out on a seasonal basis and need repair. We have organised repairs to roads in the north of the park which helped with game counts. They are also important for Game Scouts performing anti-poaching patrols.

We would like to make this a regular programme employing people from the surounding villages.

Youth Hostel refurbishment

The Youth Hostel at Kasungu National Park was run down. We employed local painters to re-paint and spruce it up.

It is the focus of many school visits and with some attention could be a strong centre for environmental education.

We wish to investigate how it could be utilised more.
